It might come as a surprise after years of complaining about the expense, but Multichoice has decided to increase its prices on DStv plans.
It comes after Multichoice complained that streaming sites like Netflix pose a major threat to their revenue.
The increases will take effect from April, with each plan increasing at a slightly different rate.
“On a weighted average basis, we are looking at an increase of around 2.4% on the whole base. We still have to pay most of our content costs in dollars and we have to try to manage the exchange rate of the better than we can. In light of a scorching year, for keeping it on average well below the CPI [inflation] for the coming year is a success ”, said Simon Camerer, COO of Multichoice.
If you are a long-time DStv subscriber, that won’t be surprising, as one year on increases is not unusual for the service.
In addition to an increase in package prices, BoxOffice rentals will increase to R40, an increase of R5.
The package increases
- Premium – From R819 to R829 R
- Compact Plus – From R529 to R539
- Compact – From R399 to R409
- Family – From R279 to R295 R
- Access – From R110 to R115
