A bug in one of the internet’s favorite hangout platforms, Discord appears to be the reason for the abrupt interruptions or failed launches that many PC gamers have recently experienced.
Several Direct3D 12 PC games running Windows 10 (versions: 20H2; 2004 and 1909) were affected by the issue, according to Microsoft and they blamed Discord and said the issue was related to an in-game overlay feature, which Allows gamers can effectively integrate voice and text chat into games by pinning widgets to the screen.
“When you try to open affected games, you may receive an error or the game may quit silently,” Microsoft said.
Initially, the company suggested that users turn off in-game overlay in the Discord app to avoid the issue.
However, the issue was fixed by updating the Discord app and a larger Windows update was not required.
If you are still seeing the error, it means your Discord is out of date.
To verify that the latest version is installed, right-click the Discord icon in the notification area and click “Check for Updates”.
