If you’ve ever found yourself on a route that Google Maps hasn’t heard of, its next update might be what you’ve been waiting for, as you’ll finally have the chance to add new routes to the platform.
In a blog post, Google announced that users will also be able to rename roads, change the directionality of roads, and edit or delete existing roads. However, if you’re worried about people messing around and adding incorrect information, Google has said it will review all suggestions before posting them – although we don’t know how accurate or fast it will be to verify.
Either way, this new Google Maps tool should make it easier to navigate using Google Maps. The feature will be gradually rolled out over the next few months to more than 80 countries where you can already edit map information.
More Google Maps updates
In the same post, Google also discussed other new features that will improve the user’s ability to add new content to their Google Maps service.
Soon we will be able to more easily take and share images of places we have visited without having to leave a longer review. A new “Updates” section at a location on Google Maps will allow you to see recent photos shared by customers and merchants at various restaurants, hotels and other sites.
For those who like to give longer comments, a new challenge program might be for you. Currently only available on Android in the US, the “Local Love Challenge” will ask all users to add reviews of their favorite local businesses. Depending on how this challenge plays out, Google has said it may try similar campaigns in other parts of the world in the future.
