With so many shows and movies to choose from on Australia’s major streaming services, it can often be difficult to find the best new stuff to keep you entertained every weekend – and this weekend is even longer than usual. !
In an effort to make things easier, we’ve handpicked the best new movies and shows to watch on Australian streaming platforms, including Netflix, Disney Plus, Binge, Foxtel Now, Stan, and Amazon Prime Video.
Below you’ll find a list of highlights from that long weekend, separated by a streaming service, with new frenzy-worthy shows alongside big-budget movie newcomers – and a few weird entries to left of the field, just for some variety.
The big new shows and movies this weekend are the highly anticipated ultra-violent animated series Invincible on Amazon Prime Video and The Irregulars on Netflix, however, there is also a nice selection of other shows and movies hitting the shelves. Australian streaming services. Here are our broadcast choices for the weekend of April 1 to 5, 2021.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Episode 3 (TV series – available 02/04/2021)
We’re on the third episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and we still don’t know what we think of the new Captain America. Last week Sam and Bucky finally teamed up and it’s safe to say their first mission didn’t turn out in a spectacular way. We can’t wait to see how their dynamics evolve this weekend.
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers: Episode 2 (TV Series – available 2/4/2021)
It has to be said that we got a real kick out of last week’s first episode of The Might Ducks: Game Changers, with the show striking the right balance between heartfelt and funny. Fed up with hockey, mom Alex (Lauren Graham) went to great lengths to create a new team for her son after he was unceremoniously cut from the Mighty Ducks, and we got to meet the rebel group that make up this team. Will this week’s episode see ex-Ducks coach Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) agree to coach these kids? We will have to wait and see.
Run (Movie – available 04/02/2021)
New Netflix Original Movie Run sees teenage Chloe (Kiera Allen) attempting to flee home after years of isolation and medical care, when she begins to suspect that her mother (Sarah Paulson) may be keeping sinister secrets and to hold back his daughter on purpose. Looks like it has all the makings of a top notch thriller.
Binge / Foxtel now
The Walking Dead: Season 10 Finale (TV Series – available 05/04/2021)
It’s been a long time, but after several periods of hiatus, the tenth season of the hit series The Walking Dead will end this weekend with the return of one of the show’s most notorious villains. Now the real question is: who will live long enough to appear in the show’s 11th and final season?
Amazon Prime Video
Blithe Spirit (Movie – available 04/02/2021)
Based on the classic 1941 play by the brilliant Noel Coward, this new film adaptation of Blithe Spirit sees Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) as Charles, a crime novelist struggling with writer’s block and a punitive deadline. We don’t want to spoil what comes next, but we’ll say this is a session that turns around quite dramatically. Also stars Judi Dench, Leslie Mann and Isla Fisher.
Clarice (TV Series – Episode 6 available 04/02/2021)
After a brief hiatus, Clarice returns this weekend with her sixth episode, which means we’re halfway through the show’s season finale. The last episode saw Clarice undergo a painful ordeal, in which she was drugged and confined to a hospital bed by a mad nurse. Back at work, Agent Starling has a new occupational therapist, and it looks like she must finally face her demons before she can get her life back on track.
