She-Hulk, one of Marvel’s upcoming Disney Plus TV shows, has finally found its main antagonist.
The series, which will feature Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, Perry Mason) as the main character, is currently in the midst of production. Until now, however, we had no idea who the show’s big bad would be.
Now Variety has reported that She-Hulk will take on Titania – and the actor filling that role will be a household name to fans of The Good Place.
According to sources close to the production of the series, Jameela Jamil will play Titania – real name Mary MacPherran Creel – in Marvel’s She-Hulk series.
Representatives for Marvel and Jamil did not respond when Variety asked if the rumors were true. This is usually an indication that the reports have something about them, but we will wait for official confirmation from either party before drawing any conclusions.
If Variety’s sources are correct, Jamil will be She-Hulk’s main villain. We already knew that Tim Roth’s Abomination would be making a comeback in the Disney Plus series, but it looks like he’ll be returning in a supporting role rather than being the primary antagonist.
Jamil will join Maslany, Roth, and Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner / Hulk) in the cast if she is officially hired for She-Hulk.
Analysis: Who is Titania in Marvel’s She-Hulk?
Titania was created in 1984 by Tim Shooter, then editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics.
Introduced during the Comic Book Giants ‘Secret Wars crossover event, Titania has since become a major villain in Jennifer Walters’ She-Hulk. She received her powers from Doctor Doom, who used highly advanced alien technology to offer her powers to Mary MacPherran in exchange for her loyalty in the Battle of the Secret Wars to come.
Titania possesses many of the same superpowers as She-Hulk, Hulk, and Abomination. These include super strength, superhuman endurance, expert melee fighter, and high resistance to physical injury.
At one point in her Marvel Comics history, Titania attempted to lay down her life as a supervillain. We’ve seen Marvel Studios follow a similar trajectory with some of its antagonists in film and television, with Loki, Ghost, and even Bucky Barnes seeing the error of their ways (or, in Bucky’s case, being freed from his indoctrination. Soviet).
Marvel could then seek to make Jamil’s Titania a nicer villain in their She-Hulk series.
Antagonists like Eric Killmonger (and even Thanos) have been linked to the public, despite their clearly questionable methods and ideals, indicating that Marvel is moving away from the proven model of “good versus evil” in favor of a “hero.” and villains are complex characters who operate in approaching morally gray areas.
There’s no reason Titania couldn’t be of that ilk too, especially if she’s a good character to start with. Perhaps she was led down the wrong path by Abomination, who seeks revenge on the Hulk and, by proxy, She-Hulk, and is brainwashed into thinking Maslany’s Walters harmed her. .
Either way, it will be some time before we uncover She-Hulk’s plot and, potentially, Jamil’s official cast. She-Hulk is expected to arrive in 2022, but no concrete release date has yet been announced.
