New Delhi. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Friday criticized Pakistan at a regional conference in Tashkent over the entry of foreign terrorists into Afghanistan and its failure to influence the Taliban to seriously engage in peace talks. President Ghani strongly criticized Pakistan in the presence of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and leaders and representatives of several other countries. Also said that Pakistan has sent more than 10 thousand jihadi fighters to Afghanistan to help the Taliban. Speaking at the conference on ‘Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity, Challenges and Opportunities,’ President Ghani said, “Intelligence estimates indicate that more than 10,000 jihadist fighters have entered (in Afghanistan) from Pakistan and elsewhere in the past month.” He said that Pakistan has failed to fulfill its assurance to influence Taliban to take part in peace talks and stop cross-border activities of terrorists. The Taliban have been moving rapidly across Afghanistan over the past few weeks and are occupying large parts of the country. The US withdrew most of its security forces and has set a target to withdraw the remaining forces by August 31. Ghani said Prime Minister Khan and his generals have repeatedly assured that the coming of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan is not in Pakistan’s interest. He said the networks and organizations that support the Taliban are openly celebrating the destruction of the assets and capabilities of the Afghan people and the state. However, as Afghan President Ashraf Ghani exposed Pakistan’s nefarious intentions, Imran Khan got chilly. Imran Khan rejected the allegations leveled against Pakistan and said that he would like to tell the Afghan President that Pakistan has suffered the most due to the situation in Afghanistan. In the last 15 years, 70 thousand people have lost their lives in Pakistan due to this. Now Pakistan does not want more conflict. He also said that the Taliban was unwilling to negotiate after the US military announced that it would leave the Taliban. When there were half a million NATO fighters there, it was time to invite the Taliban for talks. Why would he want to talk after the US military has left? Then he started getting the smell of victory. According to Imran Khan, apart from Pakistan, no other country has made any effort in the direction of talks with the Taliban. We tried everything. Launched a campaign against the Taliban in Pakistan so that it could be forced to negotiate. The Pakistani Prime Minister said that it is not right at all to blame Pakistan for what is happening in Afghanistan. He said that he would not have gone to Kabul in November had Pakistan not been desirous of peace in Afghanistan. It was always our intention to participate in peace, so I am deeply disappointed by these allegations. Imran Khan said that for what has happened in Afghanistan in the last two decades, there is also a reason for America to find a solution through the military. He said he had talks with Uzbekistan’s President Shaukat Mirziyoyev about how all neighboring countries can assist in the Afghan peace process. That would be in our interest.
