Pune: As the National Defense Academy (NDA) opens its doors to women cadets, Chief of the Army Staff General MM Naravane on Friday said they will be welcomed with the same spirit of fair play and professionalism.

He was addressing the cadets after reviewing the passing out parade of NDA’s 141st course here. General Naravane said, “As we open the NDA portal for women cadets, we expect you to welcome them with the same kind of fair play and professionalism as the Indian Armed Forces are known to the world “

Last month, the Defense Ministry had informed the Supreme Court that the notification allowing women candidates to appear for the NDA entrance exam would be issued by May next year. But observing that the inclusion of women in NDA cannot be postponed for a year, the apex court had allowed women candidates to take the exam in November this year and not wait till May 2022 as requested by the government. did.

In his speech, the Army Chief also appealed to the cadets to be aware of new technology to meet the contemporary challenges.

He said he was honored to review the parade.

“A little over 42 years ago, when I stood as a cadet in the same drill square as you stand today, I could not have imagined that I would review this parade,” he said.

He said, “From here, you will move on to the respective career service academies for more focused military training. You will wear different uniforms, but always remember that no service can fight and win modern wars on its own.” “
