Japanese actor and singer Sayaka Kanda has died after falling from a height at a hotel on North Hokkaido. She was 35 years old.
According to Kyodo News, the actress’ death was confirmed by her agency in a statement.
“Kanda Sayaka (35 years old) died suddenly at 9:40 pm on December 18, 2021. We apologize to all the fans who supported us and all the people who cared for us. We continue to do so. The situation is being investigated in detail, but we kindly request the media to refrain from interviewing relatives and posting articles through speculation, “the agency said.
Kanda is best known for the Japanese dub of the character Anna in Disney’s Frozen. She was the daughter of Kanda Masaki and famous singer and actor Matsuda Seiko.
The actress was scheduled to play the lead role in the musical My Fair Lady at the Sapporo Theater on Saturday but did not make it to the daytime performance. She was in rehearsal on Friday, the production company said.
According to local reports, Kanda was found unconscious in a pool of blood in an outdoor part of the hotel in Sapporo where she was staying.
The actor was seen falling from his 22nd floor room to six floors. He was rushed to hospital but died later.
Police are investigating a case of possible suicide but do not rule out fraud.
