Sesame Street’s Daytime-Emmy-winning music director Stephen J. Lawrence is no more. He was 82 years old when he died.

Lawrence died December 30 at Clara Mass Medical Center in Belleville, New Jersey, his wife, Cantor Cathy Lawrence, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. The cause of his death has not yet been determined.

Born on September 5, 1939, Lawrence has worked as a music director, composer, arranger and conductor on the Sesame Street children’s television series for more than 30 years. He wrote more than 300 songs and scores for the program, including Fuzzy and Blue (Orange), which he co-wrote with David Axelrod. He received three Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on the show, both in music composition and composition.

Lawrence, who is interested in educating children, co-authored with The Jim Henson Company the score of The Vubulus World of Do Seuss. He later co-founded the non-profit Quill Entertainment Company with Granville Burgess in 1998.

In addition to ‘Sesame Street’, Lawrence was credited with composing and co-producing the 1972 album Free to Be You and Me.

Other composers include Bang The Drum Sloli, 1973, Robert DeNero, One Summer Love (1976), Cult Horror film Alice, Sweet Alice (1976), Live-action musical Red Riding Hood, and 1991 HBO animated musical The Tail of Peter. Credits include. Rabbit starring Carol Burnett.

He also wrote the film score for AKA Communion (1976), which won the Music Award at the 1977 Paris Festival of Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Lawrence is the music director and co-author of four songs for the film Sooner or Later (1979), including the gold single You Take My Breath Away.

Lawrence is survived by wife Cantor Lawrence, brother Robert, daughter Hannah Jones Anderson, son-in-law Seth Anderson, grandson Arthur, stepfathers Sam and Nick Klein.
