Singer legend Lata Mangeshkar is recovering well and is staying in the ICU of a hospital in the city, her family said.
The 92-year-old singer was tested positive for the corona virus with mild symptoms and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai on Saturday.
Sharing an update on Mangeshkar’s health, the singer’s daughter – in – law Rachana Shah said on Thursday that she is fine.
“She is doing well and we are happy with it. Everyone’s prayers have been answered. Please keep our privacy in mind,” Shah told PTI.
Shah had earlier told PTI that he was admitted to the ICU because of Mangeshkar’s age and they needed “constant care”.
“She is a mild Kovid positive. Given her age, the doctors advised us to stay in the ICU because she needs constant care. We can not take a chance. We as a family want the best, we want to make sure she has 24X7 care,” she said.
Regarded as one of the best singers in Indian cinema, Mangeshkar began her career in 1942 at the age of 13 and has over 30,000 songs in various Indian languages to her credit.
In her seven-decade-long career, she has sung many memorable tracks such as Ajeeb Dastan Hai, Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, Neela Asman So Gaya and Tere Liye.
The singer, also known as the Nightingale of India, has been honored with numerous awards and accolades, including the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Vibhushan, the Dada Sahib Phalke Award and multiple National Film Awards.
She has also won the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor.
